This #WildbyNature play-land begins in Sooke, BC on southern Vancouver Island, just 35 minutes west of Victoria. It goes through Shirley and ends in Port Renfrew.
 

Drive along the West Coast Road (Highway 14) from Victoria to Sooke. Enjoy the lush evergreen rainforest and beautiful coastal views. See rugged cliffs and sandy beaches on your way to Port Renfrew, known as “the Jewel of the West Coast.”
 

The pressures of urban living are nonexistent in these historically rich coastal towns. Our region provides a mix of tranquil and thrilling experiences amidst stunning landscapes, boasting Canada's most temperate climate.
 

Sooke is a popular tourist spot on Vancouver Island. Close to famous beaches like Mystic Beach, Sombrio Beach, and those along the West Coast Trail. Here, you can find many things to see and do. The options are as varied as the landscape, the people, and your imagination.

  • Sooke camping is second to none, with fire pits and many gorgeous trails just a short walk from your site. French Beach Provincial Park has parking spots for vehicles. These spots offer great views of the Vancouver Island coast. You can also see marine life here.

 

Sooke Dining

Dining by the coast offers many choices. You can enjoy fresh local seafood and international dishes. Country pubs, small cafes, and afternoon tea also offers a variety of options.
 

The quiet winter months on the coast bring relaxing beaches, untouched tide pools, and beautiful sunsets. Storm watching can capture your breath as crashing waves pound the rocky beaches and send water shooting into the sky.

T’SOU-KE NATION

The T'sou-ke Nation of the Coast Salish peoples is a band government whose reserve community is located on southern Vancouver Island. Most community members live on the southern 41-hectare reserve while the many administration offices are on the 26-acre reserve along the main road between Sooke and Victoria.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Two reserves on 67.2 hectares at the southern end of Vancouver Island.

HISTORY

Name derived from the Sook tribe of Straits Salishans. The derivation of “sooke” is from the native name of the Stickleback fish that inhabits the Sooke Basin. It was earlier spelled “Soke” and pronounced “soak”. Very early exposure to Europeans due to the association with the Hudson’s Bay Company. Reserves allotted by the Joint Reserve Commission in 1877.

ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES

On reserve, leaders in renewable energy. Off reserve, in forest-related areas, as well as commercial fishing.

FACILITIES AVAILABLE ON RESERVE

Installation of a 75 kW solar energy plant recently completed providing a good portion of the communities needs. Community hall, cultural centre, park, band office, cemetery.
